The Mt. Vernon Marauders will head out on the road to face off against the New Palestine Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mt. Vernon 4, New Palestine 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Mt. Vernon needed a bit of extra time to put away Shelbyville. They had just enough and edged out the Golden Bears 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Marauders.
Drew Morgan looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mason Meyer and Bryndan Wylie did most of the damage at the plate: Meyer went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI, while Wylie went 2-for-3 with three runs. Mt. Vernon is undefeated when Wylie posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Brooks McKeeman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Mt. Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday New Palestine sidestepped Whiteland for a 4-3 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted against the Warriors since April 17, 2017.
New Palestine let Jacob Morris and Kingston Hedges run wild. Morris went 2-for-3 with one run and one double, while Hedges went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
New Palestine has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, their record is now 4-2.
Both Mt. Vernon and New Palestine just can't seem to miss. The Marauders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like New Palestine struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mt. Vernon beat New Palestine 7-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Marauders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
