Lehla Joe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
St. Augustine Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .806. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2025.
Meanwhile, Tombstone came up short against Round Valley on Saturday and fell 7-3.
Bria Gross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Bella Lopez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Hayden Dobbins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
St. Augustine Catholic now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Tombstone, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Augustine Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Tombstone struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Augustine Catholic suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Tombstone in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
