Football Recap: Granite Bay Comes Up Short

If Granite Bay was riding high fresh off their 45-17 takedown of Rio Americano last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grizzlies took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pittsburg Pirates on Friday. The Grizzlies haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Granite Bay still got an impressive performance from Isaiah Ene, who rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 66 receiving yards and one score. Ene has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Granite Bay also got help from Darnell Turner, who showed off his sure hands for 100 receiving yards.

Pittsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jari Alexander, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries. Those 147 rushing yards gave Alexander a new career-high. Kenneth Ward was another key player, picking up 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Granite Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Granite Bay wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 45-7 win against Vista del Lago on the 5th. As for Pittsburg, they have also already played their next game, a 31-23 victory against Bishop Manogue on the 6th.
