The Anderson County Mavericks will head out on the road to face off against the Carter Green Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Anderson County 4.1, Carter 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Anderson County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Sweetwater, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's match. The Mavericks blew past the Wildcats 12-4 on Wednesday. Considering the Mavericks have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Reece Wilkerson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Blake Lowe was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Anderson County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Carter waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Fighting Cocks.
Jeremiah Evans was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cainan Crowe, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Anderson County is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Carter, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Anderson County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Carter struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Anderson County skirted past Carter 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Green Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
