The Santa Rosa Panthers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 62-7 loss at the hands of Cardinal Newman. Santa Rosa has struggled against Cardinal Newman recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Nolan Bankston threw for 109 yards and a touchdown. Logan Bayao was his top target, picking up 79 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Adan Lemus rushed for 33 yards.
It was another big night for Zachary Homan, who rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Homan was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Jonah Bertoli was in the mix too, providing Cardinal Newman with two touchdowns.
Santa Rosa's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.7 points per game. As for Cardinal Newman, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Rosa will take on Rancho Cotate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rancho Cotate presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Santa Rosa in California (Rancho Cotate is ranked 261st, while Santa Rosa is ranked 598th). As for Cardinal Newman, they have the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Windsor is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
