The Buena Chiefs will head out on the road to challenge the Egg Harbor Township Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Buena has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Buena couldn't beat Wildwood on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Chiefs fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 9-7. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by exactly two runs.
Jaevon Alexander put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Aden Vai was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Richie Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Egg Harbor Township fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Vineland on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Fighting Clan by a score of 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Fighting Clan: they've now lost three in a row.
Mike Baxter made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Buena's record is now 12-6. As for Egg Harbor Township, their record now sits at 11-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Buena has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Egg Harbor Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Buena suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Egg Harbor Township when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
