Big North - Independence recap Oct. 30, 2012
Bergenfield moved up to 113 from 145 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Big North - Independence. The Bears were able to make move up by topping Northern Highlands 36-21.
Pascack Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Ramapo, 35-32. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Indians.
Pascack Valley's dynamic duo of Kyle Schneider and Kevin Illian proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Schneider threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and Illian had 102 yards receiving. Billy Beattie helped Pascack Valley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Will Rodriguez was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 315 yards on 42 carries as Bergenfield beat Ramapo. Hassan Evans also contributed to the rushing game with 18 yards on the ground.
Noah Provenzano made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford lost to Tenafly. The 5-foot-10 sophomore grabbed one interception.
The Indians' Schneider and Nick Soravilla have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Big North - Independence in both passing and receiving yards. Schneider has thrown for 1567 yards this season, while Soravilla, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 555 yards. Rodriguez from Rob Violante's team leads the league in rushing with 1496 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pascack Valley takes on the Highlanders. The Indians are currently in first, while West Milford is in fifth.
Pascack Valley and Drew Gibbs' team played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Pascack Valley eventually emerging with a 35-32 victory. Schneider in the win.
