Softball Recap: Hopewell Starts Season with Win Against Berry

Hopewell had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Berry Cardinals 20-2. The Titans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Ellie Wicks made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Wicks was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Hopewell let Kori West and Emma Hubert run wild. West went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Hubert went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Hubert has posted since back in March of 2024. Alexis McLaughlin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Berry now has a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopewell will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Lake Norman Charter at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Berry, they will face off against Rocky River at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
