Liberty is 0-5 against Washington since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Liberty Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Washington Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Liberty ended up a good deal behind Prairie and lost 71-52.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trey Hughes, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Kampman, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Washington's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 71-52 bruising from Iowa City West. While losing is never fun, Washington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Iowa City West is ranked fifth).
Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Washington, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-12.
Liberty and Washington were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Liberty came up empty-handed after a 70-69 defeat. Can Liberty avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
