The Miller Buccaneers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 52-45 victory over Victoria West. Given Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Victoria West is ranked 579th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broderick Taylor was his usual excellent self, rushing for 294 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Taylor was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. Trevor Long also helped out by tossing the rock for 278 yards.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kamauri Montgomery, who rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Montgomery is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Repper, who threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt.
Miller's win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 Corpus Christi Moody and 3-7 Rockport-Fulton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40.7% over those games). As for Victoria West, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Miller will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Carroll at 7:00 p.m. Both teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games. As for Victoria West, they will head out on the road to face off against Victoria East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Victoria East will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
