Baseball Game Preview: Skyview Wolverines vs. Overland Blazers

Skyview has gone a perfect 4-0 against Overland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolverines will square off against the Blazers at 6:00 p.m. Skyview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Skyview gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Aurora Central. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Humberto Chavez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Skyview is undefeated when Chavez posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

Skyview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Overland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Fountain-Fort Carson, falling 17-6.

Ruben Luna made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Dante Villanueva also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Overland's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Skyview, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Skyview has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Skyview's way against Overland in their previous meeting back in April, as Skyview made off with a 14-0 victory. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blazers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
