Last Tuesday, Elkhorn Valley ended up a good deal behind Cedar Catholic and lost 53-35. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elkhorn Valley has scored all season.
Kellyn Ollendick put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Dawson Hansen was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Grand Island Central Catholic waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hershey 62-29 at home. With Grand Island Central Catholic ahead 37-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Grand Island Central Catholic found their leader in underclassman Thomas Birch, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Birch has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Connor Haney, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Elkhorn Valley's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season.
Saturday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Elkhorn Valley have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Grand Island Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've made 37.6% of their threes this season.
