Basketball Recap: Jaxon Coleman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Concordia Lutheran over St. Pius X

Concordia Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 77-75 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Pius X Panthers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-54 back in December of 2024.

Concordia Lutheran's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Coleman, who went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Coleman a new career-high in steals. Ghaven Mittal was another key player, going 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points.

Even though they lost, Concordia Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Concordia Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 5-23. As for St. Pius X, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-18.

Concordia Lutheran won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. John XXIII at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Pius X, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Village at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pius X has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
