The Eagle Pass Eagles lost against the East Central Hornets back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Eagle Pass received a tough blow as they fell 70-53 to East Central. While losing is never fun, Eagle Pass can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 611th, while East Central is ranked 110th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caleb Smith, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zahir Williams, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Eagle Pass' loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for East Central, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle Pass will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Laredo LBJ at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for East Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Alexander at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Alexander is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
