The New Waverly Bulldogs were the 66-45 winner over the Shepherd Pirates when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. New Waverly's tough 62-39 loss to Shepherd on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. New Waverly has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shepherd's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristen Cullum, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Cullum's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Burton, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
New Waverly's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-13. As for Shepherd, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-11.
New Waverly will head out on the road to face off against Onalaska at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Onalaska will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Shepherd will take on Anderson-Shiro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Anderson-Shiro has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
