The Dinwiddie Generals will face off against the Prince George Royals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dinwiddie is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.
Dinwiddie's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Thomas Dale 14-0. The Generals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Emily Jordan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Jordan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Michaela Shell and Addison Everett did most of the damage at the plate: Shell went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Everett went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Charleigh Davis was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.
Prince George might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 14-4 to Clover Hill, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Royals have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Prince George saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Finney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Finney has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another was Kaitlyn Hacker, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Dinwiddie pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Prince George, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dinwiddie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like Prince George struggles in that department as they've averaged .425. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dinwiddie beat Prince George 13-9 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
