This season hasn't been kind to the North Marion Colts, who are still winless after their 16th matchup. They suffered a tough 61-38 defeat at the hands of Chiefland on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat North Marion has suffered since December 28, 2023.
Despite the loss, North Marion saw an underclassman step up: Amarane Hopkins dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Hopkins also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Chiefland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laila Ingram led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three steals. Ingram hasn't dropped below two steals for 17 straight games. Another player making a difference was Riley Davies, who scored 14 points along with five steals.
North Marion bumped their record down to 0-16 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home. As for Chiefland, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Marion won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Forest presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than North Marion in Florida (Forest is ranked 186th, while North Marion is ranked 574th). Chiefland's road trip will continue as they head out to face Williston at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th.
