The Tonopah Muckers and the Round Mountain Knights will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Tonopah has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Tonopah scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They put the hurt on Lone Pine with a sharp 57-31 win. Given Tonopah's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 72nd in Nevada, while Lone Pine is ranked 994th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Round Mountain blew Indian Springs out of the water the last time the pair played, but on FridayIndian Springs got their revenge. Round Mountain fell just short of Indian Springs by a score of 40-37. Round Mountain's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Round Mountain's defeat came about despite a quality game from Ava Faga, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Faga has scored all season. Layla Faga was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Tonopah has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Round Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Tonopah came up short against Round Mountain in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 31-24. Thankfully for Tonopah, Kellee Berg (who scored 12 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
