Softball Recap: Calvert Wins Going Away Against Vanlue

Calvert won the last time they faced Vanlue and things went their way on Thursday too. The Senecas blew past the Wildcats 23-5. The result was nothing new for the Senecas, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Calvert got a great performance from Rachel Spaun as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits.

At the plate, Emma Grabert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Miller, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Calvert was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Calvert's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Vanlue, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Coming up, Calvert will venture away from home to take on Northwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Vanlue, they will host Van Buren at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
