It was a good run, but the Uxbridge Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They were the victim of a tough 67-44 loss at the hands of Oxford. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Uxbridge came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Oxford is ranked 224th).
Uxbridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Thatcher Sweeney, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Michael Stark, who scored eight points.
Oxford found their leader in underclassman Nolan Remington, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Remington has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kofi Owusu, who scored 13 points.
Uxbridge's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
Uxbridge will be playing at home against Northbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northbridge is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Uxbridge will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Oxford, they will square off against Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oxford is coming into the matchup with three straight victories on the road, so Auburn is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
