John Wright made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Medford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-3-1 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Justin Marino was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was David Crohan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Medford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Lynn English fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Newburyport on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Clippers by a score of 3-2. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lynn English saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jariel Benzan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Julian Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The win got Medford back to even at 4-4-1. As for Lynn English, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Lynn English's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Medford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350.
