Even though the Freeport Pretzels have not done well against the Rockford Auburn Knights recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Freeport walked away with a 54-42 win over Rockford Auburn. The win was all the more spectacular given Freeport's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Rockford Auburn is ranked 115th).
Dedric Macon was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Freeport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Pierson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Freeport and bumps their season record up to 11-9. As for Rockford Auburn, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeport will square off against Byron at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Byron is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Rockford Auburn won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against DeKalb at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. DeKalb knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Rockford Auburn likes a good challenge.
