The Griffith Institute Griffins had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cleveland Hill on Tuesday and snuck past 47-45. This was payback for Griffith Institute, who suffered a 57-31 loss the last time these two teams met.
Cleveland Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cameron D'Hilly, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was D'Hilly's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Jaiden Meredith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Cleveland Hill were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Griffith Institute's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Cleveland Hill, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Griffith Institute will be home for the holidays to greet Eden at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eden is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Cleveland Hill will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Tonawanda at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
