The Elkhart Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Elkhart was able to grind out a solid victory over Jimtown, taking the game 4-1.
Quinn Rost was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Shreiner, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Brady Sherwood also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, South Bend Saint Joseph put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Northridge.
Joe Fox looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, South Bend Saint Joseph let Joe Washburn and A.J. LaSane run wild. Washburn went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while LaSane went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Braxton Myers, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
South Bend Saint Joseph's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elkhart, their record now sits at 8-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Elkhart hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Bend Saint Joseph struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Elkhart suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to South Bend Saint Joseph in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
