The Northeast Jones Tigers typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday the Laurel Golden Tornadoes proved too difficult a challenge. Laurel took down Northeast Jones 54-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Laurel also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Laurel was led to victory by Zy Evans and Kayllis Walker. Evans scored 14 points, while Walker dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Evans has scored at least 25% of Laurel's points. Kalasia Carter was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Erin Jefferson, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Jefferson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Falasia Cooley, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Laurel's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Northeast Jones, they have yet to win a game at home this season, leaving them with a 6-2 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hattiesburg at 6:00 p.m. on December 7th. Hattiesburg is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. As for Northeast Jones, they will head out on the road to face off against Bay Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bay Springs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Northeast Jones is ranked 28th).
