Riverside and Shenango are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Riverside will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run back in March, then bounced right back against Freedom Area on Monday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 18-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Riverside let Camryn Friello and Macy Greer run wild. Friello scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances, while Greer scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Sproull, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom Area only posted an OBP of .438.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shenango). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Aliquippa an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kennedi Lynn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Zoe Offie and Emma Herb did most of the damage at the plate: Offie scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Herb scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Herb has posted since back in April of 2024. Brianna Aluisia was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
The victory got Riverside back to even at 1-1. As for Shenango, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.
Riverside couldn't quite finish off Shenango in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
