There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. A special shoutout goes to Sun Valley's senior Sam Howell, who scored seven total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Can't Touch This
Sun Valley got a 53 - 7 win over Parkwood last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Sam Howell. Howell threw for 398 yards and six touchdowns. That performance landed Howell among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Charlotte Catholic (4th in the power rankings) and Weddington (7th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Charlotte Catholic kept its opponent Weddington off the scoreboard entirely, winning the match 20 - 0. Charlotte Catholic especially relied on junior Lamagea Mcdowell, who rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown, and senior Michael Neel, who broke through the defense for one rushing touchdown along with five receptions.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
Chester gave both Indian Land and its quarterback (sacked six times) a rough time last week. Chester narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Indian Land 12 - 9. Chester found its leader in an underclassman: Zan Dunham threw for 52 yards and gained 163 yards on the ground, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players. With seven consecutive wins, Chester boasts the longest winning streak of any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between David W. Butler (12th in the power rankings) and Myers Park (8th). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
