The Pueblo County Hornets were the 65-54 winner over the Pueblo South Colts when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Pueblo County fell 58-46 to Pueblo South on Thursday. Pueblo County's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Pueblo County had strong showings from Johnathan Gonzales, who scored 17 points along with two steals, and Dominic Mauro, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Mauro has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pueblo South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maurice Austin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Austin is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caeden Herrera, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Pueblo County has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Pueblo South, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo County will take on Pueblo East at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo East is coming into the contest with five straight defeats on the road, meaning Pueblo County will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Pueblo South, they will be playing at home against Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo West has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 479 points over their last seven matches.
