The Skyline Prep Bengals will head out on the road to face off against the Berean Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Skyline Prep sitting on five straight victories and Berean Academy on seven.
Two weeks ago, Skyline Prep was able to grind out a solid win over AZ Compass Prep/Sequoia, taking the game 16-6.
Dashon Goe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes.
Another reason for the win was Skyline Prep's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. AZ Compass Prep/Sequoia's QB won't forget Abel Cervantes anytime soon given Cervantes sacked him four times.
Berean Academy had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They claimed a resounding 48-8 victory over Heritage Academy Gateway on the road. The result was nothing new for Berean Academy, who have now won four contests by 40 points or more so far this season.
Berean Academy relied on the efforts of Jason Powell, who gained 201 total yards and two touchdowns, and Andre Shields, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. Isaac Merrill got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Skyline Prep's victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 5-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 AZ Compass Prep/Sequoia and 1-7 New Way Learning Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.4% over those games). As for Berean Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Skyline Prep has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 262.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Berean Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 260.7 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
