The Palo Verde Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Legacy Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Palo Verde had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 49-38 victory over Desert Oasis. The win made it back-to-back wins for Palo Verde.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palo Verde to victory, but perhaps none more so than Crew Dannels, who threw for 240 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt. Furious Hoskins was another key contributor, picking up 182 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Palo Verde's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Ja'kari Burrell was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Legacy entered their tilt with Clark with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Legacy took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 45-0 victory over Clark. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Legacy had established a 39 point advantage.
Their wins bumped Palo Verde to 5-4 and Legacy to 6-4.
Palo Verde came up short against Legacy when the teams last played back in October, falling 27-20. Can Palo Verde avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
