On Friday, the Ballou Knights faced the Woodson Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ballou took a hard 28-14 fall against Woodson. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ballou in their matchups with Woodson: they've now lost eight in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Ballou lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kelvin Hewitt. Despite the final result, he rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 130 yards and a touchdown.
William Simmons was his usual excellent self, rushing for 275 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry.
Another reason for the win was Woodson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Ballou's QB won't forget Malik Wade anytime soon given Wade sacked him twice.
Ballou's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Woodson, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Ballou will look to defend their home field on Friday against Jackson-Reed at 6:00 p.m. Jackson-Reed is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Woodson, they will head out on the road to face off against Eastern at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastern will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
