Lakeside hasn't had much luck against Geneva recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Dragons will challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row, Lakeside turned things around against Struthers on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Wildcats. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Emily Mohney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Mohney was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Matrisciano, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Lucie Cole was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Geneva got the win against Conneaut on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-4. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like Lakeside, Geneva also got a great game from a two-way player: Annabelle Bragg. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Bragg has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Claire Cafaro was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Savannah Burton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Geneva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive games.
Lakeside's record is now 2-13. As for Geneva, their record now sits at 7-8.
Lakeside suffered a grim 21-1 defeat to Geneva in their previous matchup on April 14th. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
