Baseball Game Preview: Oostburg Flying Dutchmen vs. Horicon Marshmen

The Oostburg Flying Dutchmen are taking a road trip to take on the Horicon Marshmen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Oostburg's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Ozaukee 6-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Flying Dutchmen as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Caeden Steuerwald was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Oostburg is 3-1 when Steuerwald posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Levi Mills was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Horicon waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. Everything went their way against the Oaks as they made off with a 24-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Marshmen, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Reed Vorlob was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with five runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those five runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Krumholz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Cole Berggren also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Horicon pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Oostburg, their record now sits at 7-13.
