The Washington County Golden Hawks pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They had to suffer through a rough 87-59 loss at the hands of Baldwin. While losing is never fun, Washington County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Baldwin is ranked 34th).
When it comes to explaining why Washington County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kamonta Durden. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquavion Cooper, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Baldwin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Dennis out in front who scored 25 points. Dennis hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Deven Nelson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Washington County and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Baldwin, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington County will take on Josey at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Josey is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Baldwin, they will be playing at home against Spalding at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bahji Daniel and Dennis.
