Cardinal Newman has gone 7-2 against Windsor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cardinal Newman comes in on four and Windsor on five.
While Cardinal Newman's victory against Pleasant Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 win over the Vikings last Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since October 11, 2024.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Pathoumnourack Malakai and Titus Andrus. Malakai had a great game and rushed for 125 yards and one score. Meanwhile, Andrus was balling out in the loss, rushing for 99 yards and one TD, while also catching one touchdown.
Cardinal Newman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kordel Strane.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Windsor). They took their contest last Friday with ease, bagging a 59-21 win over Miramonte. With the Jaguars ahead 38-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Windsor's win came from a few key players Cardinal Newman will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carter Vose lll, who threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.7 yards per attempt. Those 274 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Windsor's leading receiver Blayke Ferronato was Vose lll's top target yet again, picking up 162 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Windsor's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Semere Berhe was the leader with two.
Windsor's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Cardinal Newman, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Cardinal Newman has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 160 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Cardinal Newman barely slipped by Windsor in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 24-23. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jaguars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
