After a string of six wins, The Whittier Christian Heralds''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were beaten by Maranatha 42-9. The low total for Whittier Christian limited their streak of high-flying scores to six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Whittier Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jake Martinez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Martinez hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games.
Maranatha's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dejohn Jones, who rushed for 80 yards and three touchdowns. Maranatha also got a significant boost from Miles Omalley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Whittier Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Maranatha, their win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1.
Whittier Christian will take on Duarte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Duarte's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six matches. As for Maranatha, they will head out on the road to face off against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
