On Friday, the Smyrna Eagles faced the Sussex Central Golden Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Smyrna snuck past Sussex Central with a 40-35 victory. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Among those leading the charge was Kahmaj Kearney, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Phoenix Henriquez also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.
Several Golden Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was William Harmon, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Smyrna's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Sussex Central, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Smyrna will head out on the road to face off against Salesianum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salesianum is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Sussex Central, they will be playing at home against Appoquinimink at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (Appoquinimink is ranked ninth, while Sussex Central is ranked sixth).
