The Groesbeck Goats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 86-19 loss at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Groesbeck can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1504th, while Westwood is ranked 289th).
Leading Westwood to victory were Daniel Robinson and Kavian Bryant. Robinson scored 19 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Bryant scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The matchup was Bryant's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Russell, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Groesbeck's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-16. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.5 points per game. As for Westwood, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.
Groesbeck will head out on the road to face off against Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Groesbeck likes a good challenge. As for Westwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
