On Thursday, Campolindo strolled past Athenian with points to spare, taking the game 68-52. The win was all the more spectacular given Campolindo's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Athenian is ranked 125th).
Campolindo had a senior duo take command as Dylan Mansour scored 18 points and Tim Smith scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Mansour has scored at least 25% of Campolindo's points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rendle, who scored 10 points.
When it comes to explaining why Athenian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Evan Lucas. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points. The game was Lucas' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Olivier, who scored 12 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Campolindo and bumps their season record up to 4-2. As for Athenian, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 4-2.
Campolindo will take on Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Athenian, they will take on College Park at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
