Astoria/VIT hasn't had much luck against Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rebels will welcome the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Astoria/VIT is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of West Prairie. Even though they lost, the Rebels' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 7 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
H Horwedel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, D Wickert was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia made easy work of Liberty on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.
Like Astoria/VIT, Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia also got a great game from a two-way player: Mylee Tracy. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Tracy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia McCombs, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Addison Rohn, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty only posted an OBP of .158.
Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Astoria/VIT, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Astoria/VIT hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Astoria/VIT might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
