Lone Oak hasn't had much luck against Mount Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Buffaloes will host the Tigers at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Lone Oak didn't have quite enough to beat Winnsboro and fell 6-5.
Meanwhile, while Mount Vernon put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Chisum. The Tigers put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Tigers have won 14 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grayson Hammonds made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hammonds was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
In other batting news, Olivia Baird was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kajmiere Foster, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Mount Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Mount Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Lone Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.
