The Vanguard Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Forest Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vanguard will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Vanguard needed a bit of extra time to put away Citrus. They had just enough and edged out the Hurricanes 4-3.

Jordan Pinkerton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brody Katich was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Forest). They blew past Seven Rivers Christian 13-1 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Wildcats with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Vanguard, Forest also got a great game from a two-way player: Jerimiah Secor. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Secor has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Javier Molina, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Forest: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ryan Cushenbery, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vanguard's record is now 12-1. As for Forest, their record now sits at 4-10.
Vanguard beat Forest 5-1 in their previous matchup back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
