Basketball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Leon Lions

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Godby Cougars challenge the Leon Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... The timing is sure in Godby's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Leon has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Godby will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Chiles, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Godby put the hurt on Chiles with a sharp 57-31 victory on Friday. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Godby's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kenijah Clayton, who posted 30 points in addition to eight steals and six rebounds, and Cristina Brown, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Clayton has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Aniyah Lewis was another key player, putting up four points along with nine boards and six steals.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 58 points the game before, Leon was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a blow against Lincoln, falling 61-16. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while the Trojans are ranked 125th).

Godby has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for Leon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Everything came up roses for Godby against Leon in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 69-31 win. Does Godby have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
