South Warren is 6-1 against Henderson County since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Spartans will take on the Colonels at 9:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Warren is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Greenwood, who was ranked second at the time (South Warren was ranked first). The Spartans blew past the Gators 14-2 on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won ten games in a row.
Emme Goss tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on McLaine Hudson, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kinleigh Russell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
South Warren was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Henderson County came out on top against Gibson Southern on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Colonels were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Titans. The Colonels haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Anna Kemp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Kemp was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Maggie Grogan was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Azayah Hall, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
South Warren's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Henderson County, their victory bumped their record up to 23-3.
Both South Warren and Henderson County just can't seem to miss. The Spartans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Henderson County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Warren couldn't quite finish off Henderson County in their previous matchup back in June of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
