The McClave Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Cheyenne Wells Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McClave is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when McClave took on Granada on Wednesday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Bobcats. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.
Drew Howe and Ryan Steinbrunn made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Howe pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Steinbrunn struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Howe scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Steinbrunn scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, McClave got a massive performance out of Elijah Solis, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lawton Annen, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
McClave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granada only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Wells was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Eads, falling 19-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Cheyenne Wells saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Framel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Cheyenne Wells' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for McClave, their record now sits at 7-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McClave has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .617. However, it's not like Cheyenne Wells struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McClave came out on top in a nail-biter against Cheyenne Wells in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 13-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
