MAIS AA District 2 recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Leake Academy, who defeated 121st ranked Canton Academy, 21-3.
The Rebels scaled the state rankings by moving to 116 from 142 this week, the biggest jump in MAIS AA District 2. Leake Academy climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Panthers 21-3.
Lafayette Wales was a passing and rushing force as Canton Academy fell to the Rebels.
Riley Pierce put up the best numbers through the air as Oak Hill Academy lost to Heritage Academy. He finished with 3 completions for 75 yards. Pierce's favorite target this week was Curt Huffman, who caught 2 passes for 63 yards.
The Raiders' Pierce and Huffman have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pierce has thrown for 459 yards this season, while Huffman, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 8 catches for 264 yards. Wales from Ron Jurney's team leads the league in rushing with 736 yards.
The Panthers are in third place, while Tri-County Academy is in first place.
Leake Academy made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,053 from 6,287. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-3 victory over Canton Academy last week.
