Gracelynn Huffman and Addi Christensen made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Huffman tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Christensen kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Huffman has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Huffman scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Christensen went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that Christensen hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ainsleigh Utter, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Brynn Skelton was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Columbia River made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hockinson on Thursday. The Rapids came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 17-12. The victory continues a trend for the Rapids in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.
Emily Hull and Haley Corona did most of the damage at the plate: Hull went a perfect 5-for-5 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and two doubles, while Corona scored five runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, Corona is now averaging an impressive 3 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Aubrey, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.
The win got Columbia River back to even at 2-2. As for Woodland, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Columbia River's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Woodland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Columbia River, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Woodland keep running through batters, or will the Rapids buck the trend?
Woodland might still be hurting after the 12-5 loss they got from Columbia River in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Beavers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
