They played their high school ball relatively close together.
Their college football programs are only miles apart.
And Saturday, with the pair on the same team, they were unstoppable.
Oak Harbor's Marshall Lobbestael threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns and Edmonds-Woodway's Eric Greenwood caught six passes for 130 yards and two scores as the West rallied past the East, 27-17, at the 43rd annual East-West All-Star football game at Everett Memorial Stadium.
"We knew those two together would be lethal," West coach Dave Ward told the Seattle Times. "With Eric's jumping ability and speed and with Marshall's ability to put the ball where no one else can get it, it was a thing ofbeauty."
Lobbestael, who led Oak Harbor to the Class 3A state title, is headed to Washington State. He was 13 of 18 passing.
Greenwood, who is headed to Idaho, scored on a 90-yard run in the third quarter to pull the West team within four, 17-13.
"It was really fun to throw to a guy who is 6-foot-6 and runs great routes," Lobbestael told the Times. "Our timing was great all week. It would be crazy if we could keep playing together."
On the next play from scrimmage after Greenwood's touchdown, the West team took the lead when Kennedy's Nate Williams, a Washington recruit, picked off his second pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
Williams was named the game's defensive MVP.
The East took the lead in the first half on two 19-yard touchdown runs by Skyview's Micah Lape, who is headed to Central Washington.
Lape was named the game's offensive MVP after finishing with 88 yards on 13 carries.
Basketball: Pair of Highlanders Pick Cougars
Anthony Brown, a junior-to-be at ShadlePark in Spokane, has made a verbal commitment to play for Washington State.
Brown, a 6-foot-5 wing, averaged 21 points a game as a freshman, and scored 14.2 points last year when they were a win away from qualifying for state.
"Without a doubt they are a really good defensive team and that is one of the reasons I did commit there," Brown told the Spokesman-Review. "I really liked the coaches and just like the overall way they play as a team."
If Brown signs his letter of intent when he's a senior, he would become the first Greater Spokane League basketball player to sign with WSU since 1990, according to the Review. The last was Rob Corkrum, who led Shadle Parkto a state title.
Lexie Pettersen, who will be a senior at Shadle Park, has also verballed to WSU. Pettersen is a 6-foot post who averaged 15.8 points per game.
