This season hasn't been kind to the Verbena Red Devils, who are still winless after their tenth contest. Their rough 46-24 loss to Billingsley on Monday might stick with them for a while. Verbena has not had much luck with Billingsley recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Billingsley found their leader in underclassman Alana Jones, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Jones is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrica Motley, who scored nine points along with six assists and six steals.
Verbena dropped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.7 points per game. As for Billingsley, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Verbena will head out on the road to take on Notasulga at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Notasulga is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Billingsley, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Beulah at 4:30 p.m. on January 30th.
