The Douglas County West Falcon suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 68-44 walloping at the hands of Fort Calhoun. Douglas County West was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.
Douglas County West lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Grace Holm, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carley Shaw, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
Fort Calhoun's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Raeann Massey led the charge by scoring 17 points along with nine blocks. Massey has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Maelie Nelson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Douglas County West's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Fort Calhoun, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-4.
Douglas County West will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Syracuse at 6:00 p.m. As for Fort Calhoun, they will head out on the road to challenge Arlington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Arlington is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
